High-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an imaging technique that does not use radiation based on a magnetic field and radiofrequency waves. At the moment with the most modern equipments of 1.5 and 3 TESLA it is possible to study the cardio-vascular system, acquiring images without artefacts of an organ in constant movement.
Cardiac MRI allows the evaluation of contractility, overall function and tissue characteristics of the heart, allowing, among others, to assess the degree of the myocardial infarction (heart muscle) and the repercussion of the cellular death (infarction) on the function of the heart.
