Interventional Radiology - Abscess Drainage

Abscess drainage consists of making a cut, providing a "channel" of escape to the pus, either through a drainage tube or by leaving the cavity open. Before doing this drainage, the surrounding area should be anaesthetised.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN:

  • The patient should fast 4 hours prior to the exam and bring the coagulation study.
  • There may be a need for hospitalisation.
