Interventional Radiology - Vertebroplasty

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure in which surgical cement (material developed to be used in bones) is injected into the spinal column.

This procedure can be indicated if you are suffering from pain caused by a vertebral compression fracture. This means that a vertebra (part of your spine) has collapsed, possibly due to a fall or weakening of it. The cement, as a kind of internal mold, provides relief of pain and stabilizes the affected area of the spine.

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN:

  • The patient should fast 5 hours prior to the exam.
